DL E&C built the Saemangeum National Arboretum, following the Sejong National Arboretum.

DL E&C announced on the 5th that it has won a contract for building the Saemangeum National Arboretum and is constructing the arboretum, following the Sejong National Arboretum, Korea’s first urban arboretum. As the number of people visiting arboretums, the rest areas in the city, has been steadily increasing in recent years due to fatigue caused by rapid urbanization, DL E&C has been winning a large-scale arboretum project in Korea, proving its industry-leading competitiveness in the landscape field.
▣ The Saemangeum National Arboretum, Korea’s first arboretum built on reclaimed land, attracts attention as a coastal arboretum.
The Saemangeum National Arboretum, currently under construction by DL E&C, will be located on 150 ha (1500000m2) of coastal reclaimed land in Saemangum district, Gimje-si, Jeollabuk-do, Korea. As Korea’s first arboretum built on reclaimed land, a total of 620,000 of 620,000 plants of 1014 species will be planted on reclaimed wasteland to create a space where people can enjoy the beauty created by nature.
In particular, this arboretum is themed as a coastal arboretum, which is based on coastal and island plant resources from around the world. The space and facility design will be applied to express the ocean, which is the homestead of local fishermen, and a space will also be placed to observe the characteristics of reclaimed soil.
The main facilities will include the ‘Coastal Plant Dome’, a greenhouse with a shell-shaped motif, the ‘Saemangeum Story Forest’, which consists of a three-dimensional spaces organized into 7 themes, the “Island Flower Garden’ which is designed to observe the characteristics of vegetation in reclaimed land, and the ‘Coastal Dune Garden’, a space for preserving plants on the coastal dune.
As the Saemangeum National Arboretum will be built in Korea’s first coastal reclaimed land, DL E&C is actively utilizing the latest technology for salt damage and sea breeze, including salt blocking method and soil improvement method, to ensure safe construction. It is scheduled to be completed by 2027.

Prior to the Saemangeum National Arboretum, DL E&C successfully completed the Sejong National Arboretum, the first urban arboretum in Korea, in 2022. The central green area in downtown Sejong City was transformed into a green space for citizen’s health, leisure and cultural activities.
DL E&C has prepared about 20 thematic exhibition gardens (palace gardens, hermitage gardens, traditional gardens and bonsai gardens) that show Korea’s plant culture at a glance. DL E&C also placed four-season greenhouse, natural garden and festival yard where the visitors can directly participate in green cultural activities, which highlighted the difference the Sejong Nationa Arboterum has in comparison with the existing arboretums. It also unveiled a beautiful waterfront space, including the creation of Cheongryujiwon, a 2.4km-long artificial waterway using Geumgang water.
The Sejong National Arboretum, in its 5th year of opening, has become a landmark in Sejong City and a must-visit course for visitors to Sejong City. Last year, it continued to earn favorable reviews, and won the Prime Minister’s Prize at the ‘Korea Landscaping Award’ hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the Korean Society of Landscape Architecture.

DL E&C’s knowhow on the construction of many arboretums is applied to the specialized landscape design for its own housing brands, ‘Acro’ and ‘ePyeohansesang’. Especially, DL E&C unveils a premium landscape brand, ‘dePOEM Park’, starting from 2022.
‘dePOEM Park’ creates natural landscape from land shaping in order to provide the customers with a variety of spatial experiences. The creation of the refined and understated landscape design harmonious with the architecture, and sensory gardens with stories will help residents improve their quality of life in a pleasant and comfortable residential space.
In addition, DL E&C is adopting design and technical considerations to respond to climate change and fine dust in order to create an ecological and eco-friendly space in apartments. In order to create differential landscaping spaces for each apartment complex, the Company assigns members, who have majored in various field, including architecture, landscaping, civil engineering, horticulture and environment, with the Housing Landscaping Team, to manage the landscaping spaces systematically and methodically.
