DL E&C has embarked on a company-wide, high-intensity corporate innovation. As the first step in corporate innovation, the Company announced on the 28th that it is working together with employees and partner companies to produce an integrated work manual, which is the most basic of on-site work. the Company plans to review all construction categories and works from scratch in collaboration between employees at head office and sites, as well as experts from the partner companies, in order to reestablish DL E&C’s own proper way of working.
DL E&C has chosen a winning move of implementing the best quality that surpasses customers’ eyelevel to survive and take off in the face of a business environment where uncertainty is accelerating, and customer and social demands on the overall construction industry are increasing. Any defects may lead to rework, causing delays in construction period and cost pressures, and threatening safety. In order to break the vicious cycle of continuous threats to quality, and to enhance basic physical strength that can withstand even in recessions and economic fluctuations, DL E&C has invested company-wide capabilities and continued to conduct defect zero activities for several years.
Not content with this achievement, DL E&C seeks to find answers from the site and the basics together with partner companies in order to attain innovation that can consistently provide the highest level of completeness and quality. Furthermore, the Company plans to boldly reveal and overcome the existing practices and obstacles of the construction industry in order to innovatively enhance productivity, efficiency and quality levels and to lead the way in the transformation of the construction industry.
▣Reestablishing DL E&C’s own proper way of working….leading innovation in the construction industry
DL E&C is first reviewing all construction categories and works from scratch. All issues in the site, including quality, safety, cost and construction period, are closely connected and mutually influential, so the Company judges that it is impossible to secure competitiveness by improving only certain areas. With a commitment not to compromise on even the smallest defects, DL E&C is meticulously scrutinizing the manual. Since even a tiny defect can immediately threaten the Company’s reputation, profitability and even survival, the Company plans to compile an integrated manual to control all risks and variables.
In the process of making an integrated manual, DL E&C plans to review works performed according to customs from their essence and purpose in order to reestablish the proper way of working. It is expected that the integration of work guidelines and procedures scattered across each field will cause the Company to complete the industry’s best quality control bible. Additionally, DL E&C has a strategy to share it with all partner companies and on-site workers, and to establish a process in which workers and managers are responsible for work according to the same standards and principles, as well as to further enhance competitiveness and quality across all aspects of business, including winning orders, cost and safety.
▣Embarking on a journey to find answers from the site and the basics together with partner companies
DL E&C is working together with its partner companies to carry out this work. Construction companies that fail to meet the more stringent social standards for quality and safety can no longer expect to survive. Partner companies are no exception. Accordingly, they are actively participating in this work as they are keenly aware of the need for innovation in quality and safety. DL E&C aims to utilize this collaboration as an opportunity for win-win development, and to build mid- to long-term partnerships with partner companies participating in this work, and actively support them in securing various business opportunities.
Technical teams from DL E&C and its partner companies have formed a TFT to gather wisdom and to find answers in the sites. Opinions and alternatives of the partner companies, which are experiencing unreasonable practices and inefficiencies at the fore front, are being examined from various aspects. By doing so, it is expected that knowhow and professionalism possessed by the best experts in each construction category and work will be reflected in the manual. The challenge is to internalize expertise based on clear manualization of all tasks and consistently maintain a high level of work completion, rather than relying on individual skills and knowhow.
Activities are also underway to vividly listen to voices from various sites. The Company is conducting in-depth interviews with field experts, including CEOs of partner companies, who have both practical experience and management/supervisory capabilities for each construction category. The Company also opened an anonymous communication channel to listen to the voices of employees, assistant manager-level on-site workers and partner companies without any omissions or adjustments. About 300 employees, regardless of affiliation and position, are actively exchanging opinions in 75 anonymous communication channels with the power of collective intelligence.
