DL E&C is leading the industry in the ‘smart construction’ on the basis of its BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology.
DL E&C announced on the 18th that it held kick-off meeting of ‘BIM Technical Committee at Smart Construction Alliance’ at the Construction Hall in Gangnam-gu, Seoul on the 13th. The meeting was attended by more than 100 officials from DL E&C, MoLIT, the Korea Institute of Construction Technology, the Building Smart Association and member companies.
The Smart Construction Alliance is a public-private-academic council organized by MoLIT in July to encourage companies to proactively participate and cooperate in various aspects from development to demonstration and diffusion of smart construction technology.
DL E&C was selected as a BIM leading company among 6 smart construction fields. DL E&C took on the role of leading industry innovation to discuss ways to spread BIM, heading up small and medium-sized construction companies and venture companies. Starting with this meeting, the plan is to accelerate the industry’s transition to BIM through discussions on 1) development of technology and standards, 2) proposals of institution and policy, 3) development and certification of human resource and 4) utilization, monitoring and support.
BIM is a technology that integrates and manages information generated throughout the entire process of planning, design, construction and maintenance of construction projects, based on 3D models. It has the advantage of identifying problems in design and construction in advance, supporting rapid data-driven decision-making, and thereby improving productivity and safety.
DL E&C applied BIM technology to all its apartment complex sites in 2020 for the first time in the construction industry. Currently, it operates the largest BIM team among construction companies in Korea. It is actively utilizing BIM to control costs accurately, to improve design quality, as well as, to reduce construction errors.
In May, DL E&C acquired ‘ISO 19650:2018’ certification, an international standard for BIM, from British Standards Institution (BSI). ISO 19650 is an international standard enacted by the British Standards Institute. DL E&C has been internationally recognized for its capabilities in world-class BIM information management, standardized technology and quality, and professional technical organization by means of ISO 19650 certification
