DL E&C disclosed on the 5th that Korea’s first city center arboretum, Sejong National Arboretum, won the Prime Minister’s Prize at the Korea Landscaping Awards 2022.
Now in its 13th year, the Korea Landscaping Awards is co-hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport and the Korean Institute of Landscape Architecture. It seeks to discover landscape sector projects shaping the pleasant national territory environment and contributing to national development. The winning projects are selected by comprehensively evaluating the landscape policy and practice cases of the presented projects.
DL E&C won the Prime Minister’s Prize by presenting Sejong National Arboretum (SNA) in this year’s event. The project garnered high scores in the first document screening, second due diligence and people-participating evaluation, and third final evaluation. The awards ceremony was held at the Kimdaejung Convention Center in Gwangju City on the 31st of last month.
DL E&C kicked off construction of SNA in 2016 and completed it within four years in 2020. It is Korea’s first city center arboretum shaped to provide a green area for citizens’ health, recreation, and cultural activities. The area of the arboretum, shaped in Sejong City’s central green area, is 65ha or equivalent to 90 soccer stadiums.
DL E&C constructed exhibition gardens by various themes (palace garden, hermitage garden, traditional garden, and bonsai garden) showing Korea’s botanical culture at a glance. By providing the four-season greenhouse, living garden, and festivity madang (yard) through which users can participate in green cultural activities, differentiation from the existing botanical gardens has been offered. The arboretum earned raves among visitors by displaying a beautiful waterfront area including Cheongryujiwon, an artificial watercourse 2.4km long, using the water of Geumgang River.
Having proven its top-class competitiveness in the landscape industry, DL E&C is constructing the Saemangeum National Arboretum (SNA) that it additionally won last year. SNA will be constructed with 151ha of area in the coastal reclaimed land of Saemangeum District in Gimje City, Jeonbuk.
The company showed off its technological competitiveness in the landscape field by taking part in the IFLA Landscape and Garden EXPO held together with the Korea Landscaping Awards at the Kimdaejung Convention Center from the 31st of last month to the 2nd of this month. DL E&C was the only construction company to have participated in the event.
