The Chuncheon Bridge (access bridge to LEGOLAND) built in Chuncheon City, Gangwon Province won the Grand Prize (Gold Prize) in the Civil Engineering Structure Awards of the Year held during the 2019 Civil Engineering Day celebration hosted by the Korean Society of Civil Engineers. The civil engineering structure of the year is selected considering engineering creativity, artistic attributes, user convenience, eco-friendliness, and eco-landscape attributes among the civil engineering structures designed and constructed the previous year. Chuncheon Bridge garnered high scores for its harmony with Uiam Lake and connectivity with natural tourism resources including bicycle roads and trails. It won double gold following the Land, Infrastructure, and Transport Minister’s Prize in the Korean Land Competition in July last year.

Chuncheon Bridge connects the section between Geunhwa-dong, Chuncheon City and alluvial island of Lake Uiam. The upper structure has been made lighter by applying 180Mpa ultra-high performance concrete – which is 5-6 times stronger than general concrete — to the cable-stayed bridge for the first time in the world. The landscape attributes and economic feasibility have been simultaneously secured as well. When LEGOLAND Korea is opened in the future, it will play a role as an access road.
