DL E&C Completes Phase 1 Section of the Saemangeum South-North Road Project

DL E&C announced on the 26th that it completed the phase 1 section (third construction section) of the Saemangeum South-North Road Construction Project, one of the largest preferred projects of Jeollabuk-do.
The project involves building a 27.1km road (6~8 lanes) from Buan-gun, Jeonbuk to Gunsan Saemangeum Industrial Complex. It was propelled to secure the internal artery function of Saemangeum and promote the surrounding land development.
DL E&C won the third construction section project in the Saemangeum South-North Road Phase 1 Section ordered by the Saemangeum Development and Investment Agency. Construction was commenced in December 2017 and was completed in February 2023. Based on the design for road functionality improvement, safe and convenient road was showcased by installing IoT-based cutting-edge traffic-safe facilities, including variable speed controllers, automatic sudden situation detection system, and salt spray system.
DL E&C erected the world’s first-ever asymmetric reverse arch bridge (723m in total length) and shaped it as the landmark of Saemangeum.
The reverse arch bridge is shaped like a crescent (reversed bow as its name suggests), so differentiated design is one of the characteristics such as embracing Saemangeum’s waterway. DL E&C adopted a creative top part structure to ensure the flight safety of airplanes coming to and from the surrounding airport.
DL E&C built Yi Sun-sin Bridge, Korea’s largest suspension bridge connecting Jeonnam Yeosu and Gwangyang (2013), and Turkey’s Canakkale Bridge as the world’s longest suspension bridge (2022). The company has demonstrated its world-class special bridge technological capabilities once more by completing the reverse arch bridge from Saemangeum Mangyeong Bridge.
“We successfully completed the phase 1 section of Saemangeum South-North Road, including the world’s first asymmetric reverse arch bridge. We will keep on creating landmark bridges that draw attention worldwide through leading technologies in the industry,” an official of DL E&C said.
