‘nuclear clean hydrogen and CCUS business’

The ‘MOU for Nuclear Clean Hydrogen Utilization and Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) Business’ held on the 18th. DL E&C and Carbonco announced on the October 19th that they had signed a business agreement for the 'nuclear clean hydrogen utilization and carbon collection/utilization/storage (CCUS) business with Uljin-gun. On the 18th, the business agreement ceremony held at Donuimun D-Tower, Jongno-gu, Seoul, was attended by Uljin-gun Son Byeong-bok, DL E&C Plant Business Director Yoo Jae-ho, and Carbonco Business Development Director Yoo Jae-hyung.

Nuclear clean hydrogen refers to hydrogen produced by water electrolysis, which uses electricity and steam generated during operation of nuclear power plants to electrolyze water. Nuclear power plants have a higher utilization rate than other power sources such as solar and wind power, and are attracting attention as an eco-friendly hydrogen production method as they do not emit greenhouse gases.

This agreement was prepared to build an eco-friendly industrial complex that does not emit carbon and mass production and demonstration of nuclear clean hydrogen, which is considered a future clean energy. The two sides agreed to promote the production of clean hydrogen from nuclear power plants, the demonstration project ammonia, the hydrogen hub terminal connection, the project to build a large-scale supply pipeline, and the collection, utilization, and storage of carbon generated within the national industrial complex.

Uljin-gun, the core of the East Coast Hydrogen Economic Belt, is currently building the Uljin Nuclear Hydrogen National Industrial Complex and a large-scale clean hydrogen production demonstration complex. DL E&C and Carbonco are recognized for their differentiated competitiveness in related business fields through the development and design of multiple hydrogen production plants at home and abroad, procurement of equipment, and construction (EPC). Based on this, when a national industrial complex is created in Uljin-gun, it plans to actively participate in the production and demonstration of nuclear clean hydrogen, as well as the construction, utilization and storage of carbon capture facilities generated in the entire national industrial complex.

DL E&C official said, “As long as we have entered the small module nuclear power plant business that is attracting attention as a decarbonized energy source, we have been able to further strengthen our portfolio of new eco-friendly businesses related to nuclear power plants, from nuclear power plant EPC to nuclear clean hydrogen production and utilization.”

Meanwhile, DL E&C established Carbonco, a company specializing in CCUS and eco-friendly hydrogen business, in August, and is rapidly expanding the decarbonization business. On the 13th, a joint business agreement was signed with the South Australian government to promote the eco-friendly hydrogen economy. Through this, DL E&C and Carbonco decided to actively participate in the production and infrastructure construction business of eco-friendly hydrogen and derivatives conducted by the South Australian state government.
