Daelim Develops BIM-based Optimal Design Program for Feedwater Line

ECOflow designer – 3D Piping Modeling

Daelim Construction Business Division’s Technology Research & Development Institute has developed ECOflow Designer, a BIM-based optimal design program for the feed water line. ECOflow Designer is a program optimizing the diameters of water pipes and efficiently distributing the flow rate through the use of BIM*-based 3D model.

*BIM [Building Information Modeling]: modeling buildings with 3D design mode; it is a process of managing the planning step up to the design, construction, and maintenance steps in an integrated manner

Unlike the existing 2D drawing-based interpretation, the program uses the information of the 3D feedwater line model and interprets it. According to the interpretation result, the diameters of the water pipes are automatically corrected; hence the shorter working time and high interpretation precision.

As a result of tests, interpretation time was reduced by 60% from 5 days to 2 days, and more than 15% piping cost saving and 25% pump operation cost saving were realized at the sample site. Moreover, the pump’s required minimum height of pumped-up water can be calculated, and whether to install the press difference control valves as well as their proper installation positions can be drawn. Daelim plans to apply ECOflow Designer gradually to various projects.
