Daelim Industrial wins Polycarbonate Plant Construction Project in Saudi Arabia

Daelim Industrial Co., Ltd., received a contract from Saudi Arabia, for the largest project of polycarbonate ever (260,000 tons in yearly output).  (Feburary 14)

Daelim Industrial Co., Ltd. (Chairman, Yong Koo Lee), received a contract from Saudi Arabia, which is the largest project of polycarbonate ever. This project was commissioned by Saudi Kayan Petrochemical Co., of which 35% of the shares are owned by the state-run corporate, SABIC. This project is to manufacture durable engineering plastic, polycarbonate, and the plant is to be built in an industrial complex in Al Jubail, by 2010. Upon the completion of this plant, it will have been equipped with facilities and an annual production of 260,000 tons. Daelim Industrial Co., Ltd., received a Letter of Award concerning Engineering, Procurement Service and Construction Management Service, and is expected to draw up a formal agreement within two months, with a schedule to switch the contract to a Lump-Sum Turn Key. After this, the total scale of construction is estimated at approximately $10 billion.

Daelim is currently building a polycarbonate manufacturing plant with an annual production of 65,000 tons, which Honam Petrochemical Corp. placed an order for in 2006. Daelim has already completed polycarbonate manufacturing plants under contracts with Sam Young Co., Ltd., and Korea Kumho Petrochemical Co., Ltd.

Daelim is working on two projects in Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia. One is a manufacturing plant of propane dehydrogenation, to produce polypropylene (450,000 tons/year), commissioned by the Sahara & Basell Co. The other project is the construction of a utilities plant to produce polypropylene (500,000 tons/year), by the Ibn Zahr Co.
