- Data center market is expected to grow rapidly: “Aiming to secure more orders based on world-class technological capabilities”
DL E&C announced on the 29th that it had successfully completed construction of the “Gasan Data Center” in Gasan-dong, Geumcheon-gu, Seoul. This marks the completion of its third data center project for an international client. DL E&C plans to expand its data center business, which is expected to see soaring demand in line with the rapid growth of digital industries such as artificial intelligence (AI).
This project is spearheaded by a joint venture established by Daelim Co., Ltd. and Australia’s DCI Data Centers. The construction company DL E&C began work in June 2023 and completed the data center with a total floor area of 170,370m2, one basement level and eight above-ground floors, and a power receiving capacity* of 20MW (IT Load**: 12.9MW). DL E&C performed commissioning work beyond simple construction of building, which included installation and trial run of internal equipment system inside the data center to verify operational performance.
DL E&C actively applied new technologies during construction process, including patented earth retaining method, patented steel frame method and modular rooftop piping. This enabled the project to be completed approximately one month ahead of the original schedule. DL E&C utilized its own knowhow to complete the installation from vibration-proof system and disaster prevention system to ensure a stable supply of large-scale power, to cooling systems for lowering equipment temperatures and preventing fire.
The Gasan Data Center is DL E&C’s third data center construction project for an overseas client. The Company also broke ground in April on its fourth project, the Gimpa Data Center.
According to market research, the global data center market, currently valued at around USD300 billion, is projected to grow rapidly to USD600-700 billion by 2030. Especially in Korea, the number of projects to be ordered by overseas clients seeking to maintain stable services, including global IT companies, financial institutions and cloud service providers, is expected to rise sharply.
An official from DL E&C said, “DL Group has secured the capabilities and knowhow to meet the needs of global companies from extensive experience, such as land acquisition, obtaining permit and license, procurement and installation of key equipment, and final commissioning. We plan to actively pursue additional orders based on our global technological capabilities.”
Terminology:
Power receiving capacity* - the capacity of power supplied to a data center
IT Load** - the capacity of power consumed by IT infrastructure in a data center (servers, storages, networks, etc.)
