DL E&C has made a site-specific response plan and is conducting intensive inspections ahead of the peak hot weather. On May 29, DL E&C, together with MoEL, visited its construction sites in the Gyeongnam region to conduct on-site inspection.
The inspection was attended by the director at Jinju Branch of MoEL, the head of the Industrial Accident Prevention Division and labor inspectors, and was also accompanied by DL E&C’s CSO (chief safety officer) Gil-Po Lee. They visited the site and intensively checked ▲the plan to install rest facilities and sunshades in response to the heat wave, ▲the plan to provide cooling gear (cooling vests and scarves, etc.) and ▲operation and preparation of workers’ water intake and rotation-based rest system. Won-Hee Jeong, the director at Jinju Branch of MoEL, emphasized, “Heightened attention and proactive measures are essential to prevent workers at the site from being exposed to heat-related illnesses as we prepare for this summer’s severe hot weather.”
DL E&C plans to launch a safety and health campaign in preparation for this summer’s severe hot weather. This campaign was planned on the basis of KOSHA’s 5 basic rules for hot weather: water, wind/shade, rest, cooling gear and emergency measure. DL E&C’s “Arithmetic Operations Campaign” in response to severe hot weather consists of ‘adding’ water and salt, ‘subtracting’ outdoor work during peak heat hours, ‘multiplying’ shade, rest and cooling gear, and ‘dividing’ interest (workers’ health) and information, and includes specific action plans.
DL E&C distributed an on-site inspection checklist in relation to the “Arithmetic Operations Campaign”. It includes inspection on facilities for workers’ water and salt intake, whether to provide rest/cooling facilities and breaks for each stage of the hot weather, and management plans and training for workers vulnerable to heat-related illnesses. The Company plans to receive reports on the related facilities and operation at each site at least once a week during the intensive management period of hot weather from mid-June, and check whether they are being implemented.
CSO Gil-Po Lee requested, “To prevent even a single case of heat-related illness, all personnel at site should rigorously implement safety and health protocols, and thoroughly prepare and conduct “Arithmetic Operations Campaign” in response to severe hot weather.”
