DL E&C Mounted the ‘First Deck’ on the Songsan-Shihwa Connection Road

On 23rd, DL E&C announced that it mounted the first deck for the Harmony Bridge (tentative name), which is the main bridge for the connecting road between Songsan Green City and Shihwa Multi Techno Valley (MTV). A deck of a bridge is a structure on which roads or sidewalks for the traffic of vehicles or pedestrians are installed, and this means that the foundation work of the project has been completed.
This project, commissioned by the KHNP, is for the construction of a new road stretching over 2830m, connecting Songsan Green City (Gojeong-ri, Songsan-myeon, Hwasung-si) and Shihwa MTV (Seonggok-dong, Danwon-gu, Ansan-si.) The road is to be four-lane wide in both directions combined and will cross Lake Shihwa in the center. And this is the sector where the Harmony Bridge, 1165m long, is being built. The total construction budget is 235.4 billion won. As the contractor for this project, DL E&C kicked off the construction work in February 2023. The current progress rate is 37%. The bridge will be completed in May, 2027.
The Harmony Bridge is considered one of the key phases for the connecting road project between Songsan Green City and Shihwa MTV. DL E&C designed the bridge as a ‘one-tower cable-stayed bridge’ where there is only one tower, so that the bridge can become a landmark of the area. A cable-stayed bridge is a structure where the cables fixed on the tower support the decks. The tower goes up as high as 85m, which is equal to a 30-floor apartment building. There will be a footbridge near the tower, providing a 360-degree view over Lake Shihwa, along with landscape lighting along the entire length of the bridge.
It is expected that this project, which connects Hwasung-si and Ansan-si that are separated by Lake Shihwa between them, will reduce the travel time and invigorate the commercial areas nearby. Travelers using the Harmony Bridge can travel from Songsan Green City to Shihwa MTV in about five minutes. This is up to 40 minutes faster than traveling via the existing Shihwa Bridge. Especially, this project is expected to improve the accessibility to the Hwasung Dinosaur Egg Fossil Site and the Turtle Island of Shihwa MTV, which are located on each of the bridge. The government is currently proceeding with a tourist site development project covering the surrounding area.

DL E&C completed the project for the Yie-Soon-Shin Bridge, which connects Yeosu and Gwangyang in 2013, marking the technological independence for the construction of suspension bridges for the sixth time in the world. This was followed by the participation in many special bridge construction projects over the sea in multiple locations, both in and out of South Korea. The company was commissioned for the ‘Sungai Bridge’ which was the first cable-stayed bridge of Brunei, as well as the Çanakkale Bridge, the longest suspension bridge of the world, in Türkiye, after a successful but fierce competition with Japanese contractors, in 2022.
