DL E&C is implementing a carbon negative plant construction project for the first time in Korea. The company received a successful bid statement of intent for the 146,000-ton CO2 capturing and using plant construction project from Daesan Power on August 25.

The project involves building a carbon capturing and using plant in the biomass energy facilities located in Daesan-eup, Seosan-si, Chungnam operated by Daesan Power. The biomass energy facilities are producing energy by burning fuel, namely wood chips, and they are evaluated as carbon-neutral energy source without additional carbon emissions. DL E&C plans to realize carbon negativity wherein net CO2 emissions are negative beyond being carbon-neutral for the first time in Korea through the installation of BECCU (Bio Energy Carbon Capture Utilization) that captures and uses the carbon emitted from bio mass exhaust.

The project is 100% performed by DL E&C’s technology from the basic design of decarbonization plant to performance assurance. The company has been participating in a state research project for carbon capture for 10 years now, and it has developed the relevant technology aside from possessing basic plant design capabilities.

Plant construction is to kick off in Q4 2021 and will be completed in the first half of 2023. Upon completion, 146,000 tons of CO2 can be captured. Through a compression and refinement process, 99.9% liquid CO2 will be produced and is to be supplied to Korean carbon consumers including semiconductor cleaning agents, medical supplies, welding supplies, and dry ice manufacturers.
