S-OIL SUPER PKG-4 Site Completes Reactor Installation

Cr-Mo-V Reactor installed using a 2,300-ton crane and a tailing device

The S-OIL SUPER PKG-4 site completed the installation of Cr-Mo-V Reactor, a key facility of the RHDS (residue hydro-desulfurization) process, on October 12. RHDS is an enhancement refining process that produces the raw materials of RFCC (residue fluid catalytic cracking) through a reaction of removing sulfur by adding hydrogen at high temperature and high pressure using the residue produced at the CDU/UDU. The installed Cr-Mo-V Reactor was delivered in a timely manner to the site through 16 months of manufacturing period. It was successfully installed at the site using a 2,300-ton crane and a tailing device. The S-OIL SUPER PKG-4 Project is revamping by adding 1 reactor and 2 high-pressure heat exchangers to the Ulsan S-OIL Onsan Plant’s #1 RHDS unit. This project is intended to increase VR (vacuum residue) handling volume from 34,000 BPSD to 40,000 BPDS after the revamping and to produce low-sulfur ship oil based on the IMO (International Maritime Organization) standard. The project started in July 2019, and it is planned to be completed in March 2021.
